Alena Plihal’s artistic approach focuses on the transmission of spiritual and physical energies that surround us. Her vision of remodeling plastic forms between abstraction and figuration is stimulated by the current society that continues to evolve. It is the realization of an inner struggle to escape the conciliatory conformity. The figurative painter can transcend reality through its realism, and make a notion other than descriptive. Whereas the abstract painter may have erased the suggestive elements of reality without forgetting to be preoccupied with what is real. In both cases, one may say that the border is an area of freedom: the one of creation.
Saturated with color, her work explores the interaction of mediums within the creation of images. Each shape stands out in its own space. The figure and the shape represent for her a way to enter into a dialogue with the onlooker. She transmits an emotional range in this world that she created. Thus, the image becomes a book of emotions which the onlooker will feel the effect when looking at her work. She would like to offer the viewer an unusual experience, a chance to open new channels to her perception and at the same time relive her creative process.
Of Czech origin and living in Quebec for over 26 years, Alena Plihal realized within 8-years of her career, 17 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, symposia and festivals in Canada and abroad.
