Lucie Levasseur was born in Arthabaska in « Bois-Francs” but has been living and working in the city of Sherbrooke for more than twenty years. After obtaining a Master's degree in Education, she worked as a guidance counselor and consultant in training while engaging herself passionately into her painting. Self-taught, she attended several workshops and was inspired by many painters. She also has a certificate in visual arts from the University of Sherbrooke. Since her adolescence, “abstraction” has always fascinated her. She is interested specifically in the initial time where there is emptiness, and then space takes shape. This moment of tension between chance and reflection constitutes the central point of her research which oddly enough, comes from both the American way of painting as well as oriental calligraphy. Since 2012, she has been working at the “Centre d’Arts Orford” where the energy is complementary to hers.
The creations of Lucie Levasseur have a mix of rigorous forms as well as a sensual feeling. The majority of her work is very colourful and vivid just like the artist. The techniques used are diverse, sometimes they are “collages” others are textured. She also incorporates drippings and mixed mediums. She prefers large formats which give her room to explore. The transparency and light within her gesture unquestionably reveal the influence of “Zao Wou Ki”, one of the best modern painters from the Western World. The color is the star of her creations.
Fuego is homage to life, to energy, the joy of living with enthusiasm. The artist wishes to make you smile and question yourself through her art. And if they touch or move you, her mission will be accomplished. You may see more than fifteen of her creations within this exhibit.
