Les oubliés

Mylène Tardif
January 26th to March 16th, 2014

Native of Windsor in the Eastern Townships, Mylène Tardif studied and obtained her diploma in 2010 at the University of Concordia in Fine-Arts. She now lives in Longueil and works in Montreal where she takes part in many collective exhibits. Mylène enables us to discover her work through her many exhibits. Among many, she presented a solo exhibit at the Maison de la Culture of Châteauguay in 2010 and also participated with an artist in residence in Chianti, Tuscany in Italy in 2011.

Presently, her project consists in the esthetic representation of aging objects which are left here and there. She works with her own photographs taken on the county side of Mansonville as well as in the city of Montreal. Her goal is not to reconstruct the photography but to get inspiration from it so she may create a new image. The merger between realism and subtlety in the final results always peaks her interest and always keep the possibility of leaving something aside. The objects represented help in her study of colors.

The materials used in her work (wood, canvas, metal or paper) are part of her creative process as well as consideration towards over using or under using objects. Her mediums (acrylic, oil or charcoal) or again collage, drawing or painting, all play a role in her creations. Diluted coffee is the base of each work of art. It conjures fragility as well as aging of the objects and the effect is deliberate.

« Les oubliés » is an exhibit where you will find yourself in a universe which makes you see another side of objects, their unknown beauty. They have become works of art through their splendour, colors and new forms. One may observe the loveliness of aging in the altered object, but even better, in its luminosity.

A must!
